A snap shot of Washington Street in Middleburg, Virginia
The ever-so-charming Village of Middleburg attracts travelers from near and far. I can’t put my finger on it exactly; but, there is something special about the those who arrive on Saturday. These visitors bring with them a distinct air of creativity and always seem to share my enthusiasm for sewing and even more importantly, they behold an appreciation for handmade custom products.

This Saturday, will mark seven weeks since we opened the brick and mortar Watermelon Wishes. Customer feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and the new location has exceeded all of my expectations for functionality and accessibility.
If you have not yet had the pleasure of visiting Middleburg, I would describe it as a place rich in history, tradition and architectural details. Washington Street, is the main thoroughfare, and is home to a variety of antique shops, boutiques and restaurants.
Watermelon Wishes is situated at 7 West Washington Street in the Middleburg Plaza which is commonly referred to as the “courtyard”. Inside, you’ll find a charismatic collection of bags and accessories designed for work, school, travel and baby. Our speciality, as you may know, is custom bag design

Visitors can choose to have their bag made from any of our 35+ in stock fabrics or opt to supply their own material. Designing a bag is so much fun! A tip, if I may: before your visit to the studio, give some thought to the interior design of the bag, which can be configured to hold specific contents and meet your needs exactly.

This summer, we’ll be showcasing the work of other textile and fiber artisans who handcraft bags and small accessories. Some of my top favorites, include mini key fobs by LoveyDuds, the "Joy" handbag by SimplyBlessed, linen clutches by CraftyFrogDesigns, the "Kelly Hipster" by DeaniesDuffles, a sturdy purse organizer from DivideAndConquer and chic cosmetic clutch by BagsByLora

After designing your custom bag and taking in the fabulous wares above, you should absolutely make time for lunch. My favorite spot, the Fox's Den Tavern, is close by and serves a delicious fare on the patio.

Next stop, Lou Lou Too, where you'll find a wide selection of fashion jewelry and accessories. Also not to be missed, Wylie Wagg, the ultimate pet store. At the western end of town, you'll find Betsy, my favorite stop for "clothes with moxie."

Whew, I think it is time for a coffee break! And maybe even some ice cream? Let's head back in the other direction, just a bit, to Scruffy's Ice Cream Parlor which serves both. The "award winning" chocolate is absolutely worthy of at least a taste!
